Hawks called in to stop Peace Wing poop

Sanfrecce Hiroshima are facing an unforeseen problem at their new Edion Peace Wing Stadium home and are hoping that nature will provide the answer.

The problem is bird poop. Pigeons and crows have been perching and relieving themselves on the roof, resulting in the stadium’s brand-new seats and tables getting an unwanted new coating.

In an effort to solve the issue without harming the birds, the team turned to nature and called in a falconer. On March 6, the falconer flew his hawk around various parts of the stadium.

The aim is to make the birds aware that one of their natural predators is in the house, in the hope that it will deter them. The falconer is to make weekly visits for a month or so to assess the effect of the strategy.

In the meantime, consider wearing a hat if you plan to watch the footie!
