More monkeying around in Hiroshima

Police received a report from a resident saying they had spotted a monkey on the loose in the Hakushima neighborhood of Hiroshima City, at around 7 am on May 28.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene but were unable to find the monkey. There are schools and daycare centers in the vicinity, and patrols have been increased during school and daycare hours.

A resident who witnessed the sighting told RCC in an interview, “I thought it was a stray cat, but when I looked closer, I was surprised to see it was a monkey.”

Last November, a monkey that was first spotted at Hiroshima Jogakuin School in Noborimachi Monkey about town captured in city center parking lot. That monkey caused quite a stir, but was, at least, less agressive than those that terrorized Yamaguchi a couple of years ago.
