Hiroshima cat owner sentenced for beating noisy neighbor to death

A 65-year-old woman was sentenced to five years in prison for stomping an 80-year-old neighbor to death at an apartment building in Hiroshima’s Nishi Ward, in July last year.

The assailant explained that the man was noisy, slamming doors and the like, causing her and her cat distress.

The woman claimed that the man attacked her when she knocked on his door to complain, but videos and eyewitness accounts showed it was the woman who started the attack.

Reports said that after a struggle in the apartment building’s hallway, the woman straddled the man and assaulted him, slapping and stomping on him while she hurled insults at him.
Eyewitnesses say they heard her shouting, “Just die!” “You’re a nuisance!” and “I’m going to kill you!” during the assault.

After the man stopped resisting, the woman called emergency services, but according to eyewitness accounts, she continued to stomp on the victim until the police arrived. An autopsy revealed that the man had fractured ribs and internal organ damage.

During questioning, the woman said that she had been dealing with the noise situation for over two years and that her complaints to the landlord, the police, and the ward office had had no effect. “It’s just so noisy, she said. “Also, my cat started shedding more hair.”
