“Choose between the mountains, the sea, or kerosene.” 3 men arrested for violent assault in Hiroshima

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and coercion, allegedly pouring liquid fuel over a male acquaintance to force him to open a bank account.

The men are said to have beaten the 20-year-old man in the parking lot of a convenience store in Kamiyasu in Hiroshima’s Asaminami Ward for four hours on the night of September 7, before pouring a kerosene-like liquid over him. They threatened him, saying things like, “Choose between the mountains, the sea, or kerosene,” and “I killed someone with kerosene,” and then forced him to apply for a bank account.

The man filed a report of the incident shortly after. The three men are believed to be acquaintances, and police have not disclosed whether they have admitted to the crimes.
