Hiroshima Prefecture elects its first female governor
Hiroshima Prefecture has a new governor!
The successor to 4-term Hideki Yuzaki is 54-year-old Mika Yokota.
She is the first female governor of Hiroshima (and also the first in the wider Chugoku Region). Yokota has worked in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and after a stint as deputy governor of Toyama Prefecture, she has served as deputy governor of Hiroshima Prefecture since April this year.
The independent, with strong support from the Liberal Democratic Party, the Constitutional Democratic Party, the Democratic Party for the People, and Komeito, won by a margin of close to half a million votes against two other independent candidates.
