Micks
MICKS is a casual and relaxed izakaya located in Naka-shinchi in the center of the Nagarekawa drinking district. As it’s open until very late (especially on weekends) it’s the perfect place for gourmet nightowls.
The interior is rather traditional, with lots of wood and and subdued lighting. You can sit chairs at regular tables or in a private tatami mat room on zabuton cushions at horigatsu Japanese style low tables with a hole beneath in which you can spread your legs. Or, take a spot at their beautiful counter.
The originality of this izakaya is that they serve both really traditional washoku (Japanese food) and Western food (with a Japanese twist) – the name MICKS actually comes from the word “mix”. Both menus offer a wide variety and the food is excellent; far removed from the french fries or wiener sausages you find in chain izakaya. They even have desserts for those who miss them in Japan!
They offer all the usual aloholic beverages, but the most they also have a large selection of excellent sake. If you don’t know what to choose, they have a handy diagram, which indicates how sweet or day different varieties are, to help you.
The young staff are not overly chatty with new customers, but are friendly and welcoming. Their English ability is limited, but they have a comprehensive English menu.
Mick’s offers both a la carte and course meals. The prices are very reasonable and you can also ask for an all-you-can-drink plan.
