Convenience store knife attack in Asaminami
A 76-year-old man was arrested in Nagatsuka in Asaminami yesterday afternoon after attacking two people with a knife in a convenience store.
According to local news reports, a shop assistant at the Lawson store on National Route 183, 300 meters east of Aki-Nagatsuka Station on the JR Kabe Line, called the police at around 1:10 pm on March 19, reporting that a man in the store was brandishing a knife.
According to the Asaminami Police Station, a 25-year-old female shop assistant and a 59-year-old female customer received wounds to their hands and feet. Thankfully, they are reported to have received no life-threatening injuries.
76-year-old Hideo Uchida has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Uchida, who lives locally, first attacked the customer before moving on to the shop assistant at the counter. According to police, Uchida has said, “I stabbed her as viciously as I could because I wanted to kill her.” He is not thought to have known his victims.
