Onomichi snatch thefts, 2 in one night

Onomichi police are looking for a suspect they believe carried out two snatch thefts in different parts of Onomichi’s shopping district last night, January 28.

According to the police, at around 6:40 pm on the 28th, a 76-year-old company executive was walking in the shopping district of Kubo, Onomichi City, when a person on a motor scooter came from behind and stole his tote bag containing a bottle of alcohol.

About three hours later, this time about 1 km away at the Onomichi Station end of the city’s long shopping arcade, 45-year-old man was also robbed of his tote bag containing 10,000 yen in cash and a wallet.

In both cases, the stolen bags are thought to have been sat on the ground and neither victim was harmed.

The victim was not injured, and both bags are believed to have been on the road side.

The perpetrator who escaped was riding a black scooter-type motorcycle, wearing a black helmet and a jumper. Police are searching for the suspect, who they believe to be the same person.
