Onomichi Port Festival

Onomichi gets into the Golden Week spirit, ahead of the main event with a big, but very local, festival, featuring traditional and modern dance, family-friendly events, and lots of food stalls.
The construction of Onomichi Port was started in 1740 thanks to the efforts of Kakuzaemon Hirayama and it was this port that became the keystone of Onomichi’s development. The Minato Festival (“minato” means “port”), sponsored by the Hirayama Shrine, is one of Onomichi’s biggest events of the year and includes parades (along the covered shopping arcade on Sunday, 11:00-12:00 and 13:30-14:30), lots of dance performances, and many other events.
There are things happening in various locations, but the main action is along the waterfront in front of Onomichi Station.
