Hiroshima Ebisu Festival

November 18 - November 20

Free
Ebsuko Festival

Ebisu Shrine‘s autumn festival marks the arrival of winter in Hiroshima. Known among locals as Ebessan after the god of commerce, surrounding stores hold sales and buy komazarae bamboo rakes adorned with gold coins and atreasure ship. You won’t see a shop, restaurant or bar in the area without one. A huge barrel with mouth wide open is placed in front of the shrine to receive offerings.

The main Chuo-dori road is closed to traffic on at least one night during the festival where two stages were kagura dance and taiko drum performances are held.

In 2023 Chuo-dori is closed on Saturday, November 18 between 19:00 and 22:00 with Japanese taiko drum show followed by Hiroshima Kagura performances. The Sano Kagura troupe will be performing Ebisu and the crowd-pleasing classic of Yamata-no-orochi with its fire-breathing 8-headed serpent.
