Wednesday Night Kagura

Regular kagura performances tentatively resume at Hiroshima Prefectural Citizen’s Hall (Rijo Kaikan) on Wednesday nights with some changes to the pre-Covid programs.
Every Wednesday, a different kagura troupe comes in from the countryside to perform
a 45-minute Hiroshima Kagura show in Hiroshima City. Unlike the An Evening of Kagura – English Kagura Experience shows there is no English interpretation, nor monitors displaying subtitles. Non-Japanese viewers are, however, extremely welcome and the venue does provide a simple English synopses of the play to be performed on the night.

The Nishimune Kagura Troupe from Kita-hiroshima perform Yamato-no-orochi (The Eight-headed Serpent).
Changes due to COVID-19
- Only one play, rather than two, will be performed each week.
- No post show trying on of costumes and masks.
- Tickets must be purchased in advance.
- Price reduced to ¥1000
- Doors open 18:00
