Talk with A-bomb Survivors in English

September 16, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free
Talk with Hiroshima A-bomb survivors in English

Social Book Cafe Hachidorisha provides valuable opportunities to talk with A-bomb survivors in English on the 6th, 16th and 26th of every month.

Survivors share their stories in an informal setting, free of blame and recrimination. The prospect of meeting face to face with people who have experienced an event so traumatizing can be intimidating, but we urge visitors and residents alike to take this opportunity to hear from survivors who have made a commitment to spreading the word about the threat that nuclear weapons pose to humanity, however, painful the memories may be.

The aim of these regular meetings is to increase opportunities to talk with survivors in a welcoming and even relaxed atmosphere.

The significance of the 6th, is that the A-bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on the 6th of August. The survivors who take part in the gatherings held on the 6th speak in English, while on the other days there is usually someone on hand to help interpret.

Participation fee: No charge, but please buy at least one drink or food item.

*This event is held even if the date falls on one of Social Book Cafe’s regular days off.
