Celeste secret live show in Hiroshima

One of Britain’s most gifted singers comes to Hiroshima for what may be one of the most intimate show of her career.
Celeste Epiphany Waite — known simply as Celeste — has spent the last several years ascending from cult favourite to one of the UK’s most celebrated voices, yet here she’ll perform for just fifty people in the warm confines of basement club Ondo, in the depths of Hiroshima’s nightlife district.
Her sound sits at the intersection of British soul, R&B, and jazz — deep, unhurried, and built around a voice that seems to carry the weight of an entire era. She topped the BBC’s Sound of 2020 list, a series whose past honourees include Keane, Sam Smith, and Ellie Goulding. Her debut album Not Your Muse went straight to number one on the UK charts in January 2021, drawing comparisons to classic soul and earning near-universal critical praise. She has since shared stages at Glastonbury with the likes of Nile Rodgers & Chic and Rod Stewart, and collaborated with Paul Weller and Tom Jones.
This Hiroshima show came about through a years-long correspondence between Celeste and her Hiroshima hosts — a genuine, improbable connection that has resulted in her only Japanese performance. The chance to see an artist of this stature in a room this small simply does not come along twice.
