Interview with Uniqlo founder, Tadashi Yanai
Tadashi Yanai was born in Ube in neighboring Yamaguchi Prefecture. He opened the first Uniqlo discount clothing store in Hiroshima city back in 1984. The company has become a retail giant with a reputation for stylish designs at reasonable prices.
In this 23 minute interview with Channel News Asia, Yanai talks about the company’s development, localization, the importance of failure and where the Q in UNIQLO came from.
I like how in the beginning of the interview he talks about how the Q in UNIQLO’s brand name was actually a mistake, but he was flexible enough to see the positive side of this and go on to help the global branding appeal. This is a lesson more entrepreneurs could take on for success. Thanks for posting this!
