Hiroshima Carp go denim in August

The Hiroshima Carp may not be the winningest team in the league, but they do like to shake it up on the field when it comes to fashion. This summer, the 80’s revival finally reaches the local baseball team, and players will be sporting stylishly faded denim uniforms in three games at the end of August.

At first I thought this was a tie up with local manufacturers which, according to connoisseurs, make some of the world’s best denim. I was very surprised at how light and comfortable a denim yukata I wore in Kurashiki earlier this year felt. But that was in January and all I did was potter around looking a bit daft; Very different from playing pro-sports in the summer heat. These uniforms, however, are made out of the same material as the standard uniforms, just given that stylish stressed, acid-wash denim effect. The specially designed uniforms will see action in the Carp’s three night games against Yakult Swallows September 23-25.

Carp stars Maru, Bullington and Maeda modeled the uniforms. All commented on how they were pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they are. Maeda added that the denim style really suits Bryan Bullington’s long legs – he’s probably pretty good with chopsticks too 😉

You don’t, of course, have to be a pro-athlete to enjoy the new look, go to the Carp Store to pick up your own denim style shirts, caps, totes, tees and trinkets.
