SUMMARY:Cherry Blossom Viewing at the Japan Mint
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, the Hiroshima branch of the Japan Mint in Itsukaichi opens up its grounds to the public to enjoy the 65 varieties of cherry blossoms at full bloom. \n \nThe blossoms tend to come into full bloom later than those in Hiroshima city center\, so although you won’t find the party atmosphere of peak hanami season (food and drink are not allowed in the grounds)\, it is a good place to catch the blooms if you have missed them elsewhere\, or if you want a second helping. \n2026’s featured cherry blossom is Omuro Ariake\, a representative wild cherry tree found at Ninnaji Temple in Kyoto. It is an elegant variety with single and double blooms\, featuring pale pinkish-white flowers that bloom from the base upward and form a low shrub. Each flower has 5 to 10 petals. \nThe grounds are open to the public April 11-15\, and the gates are open from 10 am until 8 pm with the blossoms illuminated after dark (visitors are asked to enter before 7:50 pm). \nView photos of the beautiful cherry blossoms at the mint here. \n \nThere is no parking near the Mint\, so visitors are advised to use public transport. The nearest stations are Itsukaichi JR Station or Itsukaichi\, and the Rakuraku-en streetcar stop. \n

This is your last chance to see the garden until November when it opens for autumn leaf viewing. \nFrom the Yoshimizu-en website \nYoshimizu Garden is a natural habitat for the Moriao Tree Frog\, which has the unique habit of laying its eggs in trees close to the water.　In 1952\, the garden was designated a prefectural wildlife reserve. Mid-May to mid-July is egg-laying season.　At night\, four males gather around one female in the branches of trees that protrude over the pond and together they form a bubble-like egg sac.　On average\,each egg sac contains three hundred eggs.　After about a week\, the eggs begin to change and drop from the branches into the pond.　Two months later\, the baby frogs crawl up into the trees.　The locals call the white egg sacs “small bags of life.” \nThe garden is open the first two weekends of June.

Mid-May to mid-July is egg-laying season.　At night\, four males gather around one female in the branches of trees that protrude over the pond and together they form a bubble-like egg sac.　On average\,each egg sac contains three hundred eggs.　After about a week\, the eggs begin to change and drop from the branches into the pond.　Two months later\, the baby frogs crawl up into the trees.　The locals call the white egg sacs “small bags of life.” \nThe garden is open the first two weekends of June.

DESCRIPTION:It’s unclear whether the Hiroshima City Botanical Gardens will be holding their usual Christmas illuminations this year\, but many of the same installations are on display this month\, plus some nice additions. \nOne such addition are the illuminated Giant Water Lilies. \n \nFree shuttle buses from the north exit of Itsukaichi JR Station at 15:30\, 16:10\, 16:50\, 17:30\, 18:55\, 19:35. Return buses at 15:50\, 16:30\, 17:10\, 18:35\, 19:15\, 20:45\, 21:20.

DESCRIPTION:Miyoshi’s cherry blossom festival runs from March 25-April 9\, but the main event is on Sunday\, April 2 this year. Held under and among the 1000 or so cherry trees in Ozekiyama-koen Park and alongside the Gonokawa River near Miyoshi’s historical district\, it is a very pretty\, pretty local affair with stalls selling food and nik naks as well as stage performances which include children’s kagura dance. \nThe cherry blossoms are illuminated 18:00-22:00
