People Seeking Peace – Fashion Show

August 6 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Free

Fashion show at the Former Bank of Japan, Hiroshima Branch by designer, Ryunosuke Okazaki. Okazaki was born and raised in Hiroshima and is currently a senior year student at Tokyo University of the Arts. The theme of the show is “People Seeking Peace” – on the day the atomic bomb fell on the city 73 years ago, Okazaki aims to express the power Hiroshima showed for restoration.

The show consists of several participatory features. The clothes have been made by sewing together fabric on which around fifty children and adults have drawn pictures to “express themselves” in workshops conducted around Hiroshima by Okazaki himself. All models have been selected from the public in Hiroshima. Through the involvement of the audience and the local people, and the use of an atomic-bombed building, Okazaki invites people to think about peace and what it means in our times.

Okazaki has previously been involved in several peace projects, including international art project “Kids Guernica in Ukraine”, and “OKIAGARI KOBOSHI” project for Fukushima conducted by Kenzo Takada.
