Grandchildren of Hiroshima
August 11, 2018
The results of year-long Oral history and performance project, rooted in interviews between survivors of the Atomic bomb and children in Hiroshima. This year there will also be the reading of an oral history from London “After Hiroshima”. Producer and initial leader of the project Marigold Hughes will do a short talk 20min before the Grandchildren of Hiroshima shows.
Grandchildren of Hiroshima (Performance)
“Children from Hiroshima” 70 years ago and “Children from Hiroshima” now, meeting, talking and joining hands to pass down an important story.
After Hiroshima (Reading)
An oral history from London. It explores the response of the rest of teh world to the development of the atomic bomb and the protest movement that arose during the 1950s.
The performances will be in Japanese, but English scripts will be available and can be downloaded from here. Co-director Marigold Hughes says of the show, “It is a strongly physical and visual piece – so an understanding of what we’re doing, won’t necessarily be based on an understanding of Japanese.” Learn more about this fascinating project in the video below or on the project website.
