Warung Matahari

Warung Matahari has fantastic Indonesian food that is served by wait staff in traditional Balinese dress. Enjoy your meal as you are surrounded by Indonesian block print wall hangings and ornaments. Sitting in this wooden themed restaurant will make you feel like you are on holiday.

All the dishes are cooked by owner and Balinese chef Rasa who says he tones the spiciness of the dishes down a bit to suit Japanese tastes, however the dishes are still bursting with flavor and the prices are very reasonable. Rasa is also happy to turn up the heat upon request if you think you can handle it.

Located a couple of blocks down from the Takanobashi tram station. Walk toward the Salon cinema from the covered Takanobashi Hondori mall, and you will find Warung Matahari between a 100 yen parking lot and a Karaoke place.

The menu changes with the seasons, but the selection of Indonesian dishes cooked using locally available ingredients is always good. If you prefer the spicy style of authentic Indonesian cooking, make sure to mention that when you order. Many dishes are less spicy than usual which is more popular with their local customers.

On the menu, there are peanut sauce vegetable dishes like Gado Gado, spiced stir fry rice and vegetable dishes like Nasi Goreng and grilled Satay meats and seafood or fish dishes. Most dishes come with fresh salad and a variety of sweet, savory and sour sauces which perfectly complement many of the main dishes.

Warung Matahari is also vegetarian or vegan friendly, if you explain to the waiter when ordering, meat and or seafood can be kept out of many of the dishes on the menu without difficulty.

The restaurant is tastefully decorated in Balinese style and the wait staff are dressed in beautiful saris. The recently added large screen TV which displays Indonesian pop music videos and traditional dance is only mildly distracting.
