Sagur

This Indian restaurant seems to have a great following and we can see why. Sagur has been open since 2002 and a steady stream of loyal customers fill its tables every day. We made our first visit, for lunch on a national holiday. We were seated after a short wait and enjoyed a delightful family meal. The mix of families, couples, groups of friends and some business people created a friendly buzz, and everyone was clearly enjoying the great curries, salads, nan breads, tandoori dishes and other tasty meals on offer.

The curries were all delicious and creamy, the spice also delivered the right kind of heat from medium and above – be warned that if you order “hot” here that is indeed what you will get. We stuck with “medium” and found it spicier than the heat of some of the other Indians we have enjoyed in Hiroshima.

The staff were very friendly and the food came out quite quickly. While you are waiting, you can watch the busy nan bread chef in action as he can be seen through a glass window in the front of the restaurant. On the menu, there is a wider selection of non-meat curries available than we have seen including fish, seafood, cauliflower, spinach + cheese, vegetable korma and chick pea. There are also a variety of snacks, salads, thali sets and meat curries on offer.

The nan breads are very generous in size and had a wonderful, slightly sweet flavor. The curry portions are more than enough for one person, but we find it nicer if you share with someone else in order to enjoy a variety of great flavors. The “Thali” sets come with a variety of curries, tandoori grilled meats or seafood, salad, rice and nan as well as a drink from ¥2,000-¥4,000 yen.

There is fish, shrimp, chicken and other meats available on the grilled tandoori meats section of the menu. Snack plates including crackers, salads, samosa and other popular items. Indian beers and a selection of wines are available as well as the “most popular” yoghurt lassi drinks among other soft drinks. The kids set offers a fair amount of food & comes with a (very) sweet nan bread (you can change for regular if you prefer), curry, salad, rice and a soft drink.
