Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum

Renovated in 1996, the permanent collection consists of over 3000 pieces with a focus on art with some connection to Hiroshima, Japanese and Asian crafts and 1920s and 1930s art displayed on rotation. Special exhibitions are held here throughout the year.

Nanzan Shimizu: Hiroshima’s The Master of Modern Metalwork

Shimizu Nanzan was born in Mihara in Hiroshima prefecture and entered the Tokyo School of Fine Arts the year after its establishment. He became a teacher in Kagawa after finishing the post-graduate department in metal carving. In 1915, at the age of 40, he resigned and embarked on the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage.
