Centre Point Hiroshima

Centre Point Hiroshima is the latest venture by a member of long running local party starters, Sleepyeye.

After a foray into retail with select shop AUX a few years ago, followed by a hectic DJ schedule and itinerant bar duties, Sleepyeye’s Susumo has opened up his own bar space, bang in the middle of Hiroshima city’s entertainment district.

Centre Point is a relatively spacious 5th Floor bar with a few seats along the counter bar and seating all along one of the walls, which are painted in simple white. One corner has large windows with views out to the night lights, helping to give the place a more open feel.

The beer on tap is Sapporo and is ¥600 a glass. The staff seem to be working on some interesting cocktails and whipped up some mean mojitos bursting with aromatic fresh mint and one of my companions was very impressed with the Vodka Sonic, which came with a sprig of Rosemary.

There is a well equipped DJ booth tucked in the corner, and Centre Point Hiroshima could prove to be a good venue for some laid back parties, though Susumo definitely sees the place as a bar, rather than a mini-club. That said, should things get busy, there is some standing room, and a bit of open space around the entrance area if people feel the urge to shimmy. The lung aware should be warned, however, that it can get quite smoky.
