New Year’s Trains and Ferries to Miyajima
Thousands of people visit Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima during the New Year holiday, and many don’t waste any time and go in the early hours of New Year’s Day, before the sun has even come up. To help people access the island, JR lays on special trains and ferries through out the night. This means you don’t have to deal with parking or worry about having a celebratory sake (or three). You can even head up to the top of Mt Misen to see the first sunrise of the new year.

- Every 10-15 minutes 23:00-04:00
- 3 departures an hour 04:00-07:00
- Every 10 minutes after 07:00
First Miyajima ropeway departure on New Year’s Day at 05:00 (sunrise, about 07:15)
