Angeviolet win promotion to all Japan women’s soccer league

There was some recent discussion on a friend’s Facebook page as to the advisability of the name of Hiroshima’s women’s soccer team  The name taken from the French “anges violet” is meant to evoke violet angels.  It was pointed out, however, that when “anges violet” is rendered in the Japanese kataana script used for loan words「アンジュヴィオレ」it can also be read as “anges violées” or “violated/raped angles” in English.

 

A name change, however, may now be out of question as the Angels secured promotion to the Challenge League of the all Japan women’s soccer league with a 3-0 win over the even more implausibly named Je Vrille Kagoshima earlier today.
