Sumiyoshi-san, along with the Tokasan and Ebessan festivals, is one of Hiroshima city's big three annual shrine festivals that have long histories. Sumiyoshi Shrines are dedicated to water gods and Sumiyoshi Shrine is located right next to the river in Sumiyoshi-cho on Route 2. It's a real local festival and the neighborhood streets are lined with the usual festival food and game stalls. Many people visit the shrine over the two days to pray for good health and good fortune.…

Onomichi Sumiyoshi Fireworks Festival

This display, and the Hamadonya Group which provides the 10,000 fireworks that are used, have been going since the Edo period. In 1741, the recently appointed magistrate of Onomichi, Hirayama Kakuzaemon Naozumi, moved Sumiyoshi Shrine from the Jodoji Temple to Sumiyoshihama on the waterfront protect the port from misfortune. Hiroshima city's big fireworks extravaganza. Held in the bay in front of the 10,000 Ton Cruise Ship Berth (ichi-man-ton-baasu) next to Ujina Hatoba Koen near Hiroshima Port, this display is big and loud with around 10,000 bangs for your buck (although it's laid on for free). Akiyoshidai Fireworks Festival

Annual fireworks display held on the first Saturday of August each year with the dramatic backdrop of the Kintai Bridge in Iwakuni. 6000 blasts over an hour and a half.
