The approach to and grounds of beautiful mountainside Daishoin Temple as well as Machiya-dori on Miyajima are illuminated by hundreds of candles over three nights. Very pretty.

Firewalking ritual at Saikoku-ji Temple, Onomichi
Goma Ritual burning of cedar sticks followed by fire walking. Members of the public set themselves up for a fortuitous year by taking part in the fire walking for a charge of ¥1500 which includes a headband and gohei staff with pleated streamers.

Futaba-no-sato Peace Candle Night
7 shrines and temples along the Futaba-no-sato history walk will be illuminated by 1000 candles to comfort the souls of the victims of the A-bombing and to wish for peace throughout the world. The seven temples and shrines are listed below. They will be illuminated between 7pm and 9:30pm. There will also be classical Japanese music performances at some of the shrines and temples. A Summer Evening of Prayer & Peace
On the night of August 5, the string of temples and shrines in Futaba-no-sato, originally constructed to protect the castle town of Hiroshima from misfortune that was said to come from the inauspicious northeast direction, are illuminated by candles and decorated with flowers to comfort the souls of the victims of the A-bombing and to wish for peace throughout the world. Readings from the 8000 verse Perfection of Wisdom Sutra begin at 11am and extravagant Saito-goma rituals begin around 1pm in the temple forecourt with a purification offering to the alter and the chanting of sutras. The Bishop will hold a special mass at the Hiroshima Memorial Cathedral for World Peace at 4pm and then walk to Peace Memorial Park. Others will gather at the recently restored Rest House visitor center in at 5:45pm.
