The end of September is the time for "moon viewing" or kangetsu in Japan and a moon viewing tea ceremony is held in Shukkei-en Garden annually at this time. ¥800 for the (more formal) tea ceremony in a tea house (honseki) ¥600 to take tea in the gardens (nodate) The garden admission fee is also required (adults ¥260) and the garden is open to until 9pm. The Omikoshi parade around the surrounding streets on Sunday is quite impressive - the neighborhood groups carrying the portable shrines should converge on the shrine at around 15:00. Yoshimizu Garden is lovely, private garden, only open to the public on two weekends, twice a year. Autumn leaves illuminated at Shukkei-en Garden

As part of Shukkei-en Garden's annual "Momiji Matsuri" its maple trees with their red leaves will be lit up until 21:00 each night. There is also a nice Japanese-style cafe serving tea and sake, where you can try dressing up in kimono too.
