Shinpei Takeda: MEMORIA(L) メモリア(る)
July 21, 2015 - July 26, 2015| Free
A chance to view Shinpei Takeda’s Beta Decay III up close. Part of a series of works completed after interviewing over 60 A-bomb survivors who had migrated to North and South America, this large installation piece was made in a village in Oaxaca, Mexico known for its traditional weaving methods.
“Rather than the threads being woven in the tradition of the Zapotec, Takeda painted them with texts. These vertical and marked by the artist with color thread lines can be read as a time line, while the written text it can be understood as a horizontal component of memory storage. The result is a sprawling sculpture, however, carries its fragility, the time and the memory of the violence in itself, as it has been stored in it by the artist.” Stefan à Wengen
