Hiroshima Bon Dance
August 11 @ 4:30 pm - 9:30 pm
An event every day that begins at 4:30pm, repeating until August 12, 2019
Bon-odori are community dances, usually performed around a tall platform from which music plays and people sometimes play instruments and sing, held during the 0-bon festival of the dead, usually held in the middle of August. It is a little known fact that just a year after the A-bombing of Hiroshima, survivors held a bon-odori on the day after the first anniversary of the bombing.
This year, on August 11, the event is to be revived and held for the first time in 72 years. Everyone is welcome to join this event which both remembers those who were lost in the bombing and to celebrate the hope in the center of the recovered and vibrant modern city.
The event will be held on the site of the old baseball stadium, across the road from the A-bomb Dome. Things start 17 16:30, but it’s pretty hot so things tend to get more lively as the sun goes down at around 18:30.
