Don’t Follow The Wind Panel Discussion
October 18, 2015 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm| ¥1000
‘Don’t Follow the Wind’ is an exhibition inside the restricted radioactive zone surrounding the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. The ‘exhibition’ began on March 11, 2015, the fourth anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster which triggered the ongoing crisis at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Initiated by Japanese art collective Chim↑Pom, 12 projects by artists including Ai Weiwei, Trevor Paglen, and Eva and Franco Mattes are housed in buildings within the exclusion zone around the Fukushima nuclear power plant, provided evacuees. The art works will only be able to be viewed by the general public once the area is deemed safe, whether that be in a few months, years, decades or even longer.
Chim↑Pom members Ryuta Ushiro and Ellie and curator Jason Waite discuss the project at gallery G on Sunday, October 18 from 3:30pm.
Most of the discussion will most likely be in Japanese, but Jason Waite will be speaking in English with a Japanese interpreter.
