Al Mandolino
Spacious, yet cosy Italian restaurant where wait staff dress in their formal black and whites all day. Originally opened in 1987, Al Mandolino was one of Hiroshima’s first Italian restaurants and has stood the test of time due to their good food, service and spacious dining area.
One of the nicest places to enjoy an Italian meal because the food is tasty and straight-forward and the staff are trained to give good service but are also easy-going and friendly. I have enjoyed meals here as a family and a quiet meal with a friend, the spaciousness of the dining floor allows for more versatility in dining styles than other smaller places would allow. It is also a great place to go with a larger group for a special occasion and use the back, semi-private party room.
The lunch menu includes a spaghetti of the day, fish or meat, salad and bread and espresso coffee for ¥1600. A La Carte dishes: soups, salads, spaghetti- medium ¥900-1300 & large ¥1200-1600, pizzas- small ¥1000-1300 & large ¥1350-1550, pilaf and doria dishes as well as desserts. Most of the pasta dishes various sauces over spaghetti- we were very impressed with the taste as the noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauces were delicious. They also recommend their meat lazagne. The medium size is a decent portion for one person, the large is big enough to share.
Ala carte meals are also available in the evening, most main dishes cost between ¥1000-¥2000 yen and are big enough to share. Other dishes on the ala carte menu include appetizers, soups, salads, pizza, spaghetti, as well as main fish and meat dishes. Dinner sets- “Milano” ¥3500: appetizer, pasta, fish or meat, bread and dessert. “Mandolino” ¥5500~ same as above but includes fish and meat main courses. “Gourmet Set” ¥7500 includes all of the above and more with the highest quality ingredients.
Although you can freely order off the menu if booking for a group or party, there is a special party plan available of ¥5000 for 2 hours of all-you-can-drink (beer, cocktails and soft drinks) as well as an appetizer, pasta, a main dish, a pizza, dessert and coffee. They don’t mind if you bring in your own cake for a birthday party (unlike many other restaurants) and are willing to work with you to suit your needs when planning parties there.
